On Thursday 3rd of December 2015 there was a special event at the residence. Ambassdor Nyroos got to do the honors of decorating Ambassador of Neatherlands, Hendrik Willem Swarttouw, who was posted in Finland before coming to Denmark.
Swarttouw received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Lion of Finland. It is one of the highest ones in rank. It was designed Oskar Pihl, a famous jeweler of his time. The decoration is granted by the President of Finland, who is the Grand Master of the Order.
The occasion was distinguished, with warm and friendly atmosphere. Nyroos thanked Swarttouw for his service in Finland. He contributed tremendously during his stay and managed to become a part of the Finnish society in a way which is not often possible for foreign diplomats. He was well know, not least for his way of transportation - wooden bicycle.
In his thank you note Swarttouw recalled his time in Finland. Including how beautiful Helsinki is. And how he got to "shamelessly" use his Swedish knowledge. The friendships and ties will last. Swarttouw was grateful for the occasion and for getting to share it with family and friends.
